What can be done to prevent or limit the spread of swine flu?
The H1N1 influenza, also known as the swine flu, is a respiratory disease that is caused by the H1N1 virus identified to have originated from pigs. It has been named so because of the fact that the virus contains genes from human, bird and swine flu viruses.
One of the most basic things that anyone at risk of exposure to the virus can do, in order to prevent being infected by the flu, is to stay in a hygienic environment. People should wash their hands regularly and well with soap so that they cannot come in contact with any dirt containing the virus. Also, people should either use a tissue while coughing or sneezing, or cough or sneeze into their arms instead of their hands. This can reduce the spreading of the virus to a great extent.
Our hands are the most common means of spreading germs, and therefore, should not be used to rub eyes, or to touch the nose and mouth. This will reduce the possibility of coming in contact with the virus and will minimize spreading of the virus to a great extent. Besides, doctors advise individuals at risk of infection to stay at home and avoid coming in contact with people who are sick, especially those with upper respiratory viruses. Following these measures can greatly limit the spreading of this virus.
