How does Transmission of Influenza Virus from Animals to People Take Place?

Influenza can be transmitted from animals to humans in numerous ways, usually through direct physical contact. They are most likely to be exposed to the virus when the animal is being prepared for consumption, during processes such as slaughtering and butchering.

The virus can come on to humans during contact, such as in farms when they may be handled by farmers. The droppings of animals also carry large amount of the virus, being able to contaminate most of the surfaces it comes upon. This is thought of to be the primary method through which people are contaminated.

More importantly, many villages use such animals for their source of income, and this trend seems to be resistant to any form of change. However, studies show that it is quite difficult for the virus to affect humans, when compared to the number of animals that are affected.
