How the H1N1 Flu Virus affects Individuals with Chronic Medical Conditions?
The H1N1 flu has now spread all over the world. There is significant H1N1 flu activity globally while eastern, central, southeastern Europe, South Asia and North Africa have the highest concentration of the flu. While a few countries have already experienced the flu and are now recovering from its effects, Europe is continuing to experience pretty high H1N1 activity. Although South America, Mexico, the United States and the Caribbean are experiencing declining flu activity, the Middle East and North Africa are still facing high levels of transmission of the disease. The northern areas in South Asia have also reported increasing activity of the flu. Since the H1N1 flu is spreading worldwide and that too, very rapidly, travelers should be aware to avoid catching the virus. Some tips are as follows:
- Get a H1N1 flu shot to vaccinate you and your children (of minimum 6 months of age) for protection against the virus.
- Always wash your hands with water and soap and use sanitizing wipes or gels in order to avoid catching the flu from and spreading it to others.
- Avoid direct contact with people who look unwell and cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing to reduce spreading the flu germs.
- Before going to any area, find out from beforehand about all the healthcare centers and facilities there so as to stay prepared and aware.
- Also keep your ears open for public health announcements etc.
