How to treat a child with a cold?
Anyone can catch a cold at any time. However, sometimes children are more vulnerable to cold than adults. They catch cold easily, and sometimes it lasts in them longer. And when they are suffering from a cold, they need special care too.
The child who has a cold should be allowed to rest a lot. Sleeping will help the body to cope faster with the virus. The child must also to given to drink a lot of fluid such as water or fruit juices. Chicken soup is a very healthy option for a sick child, as it is easily digested by the body and provides comfort to the child. Keeping the child hydrated is basically what we want to achieve. Drinking liquid also washes out the system and fastens healing. A humidifier can be installed in the child’s room, to ease breathing and relieve congestion. Zinc supplements may also be given to the child severity and length of cold.
If the cold is persistent in the child, it may be a sign of development of influenza. In that case, a doctor should be consulted immediately. Also, giving a child aspirin is not advisable as it may increase the chance of development of Reye’s syndrome.
