How can chamomile be used to treat a cold?
Chamomile is a flowering plant that has been used for centuries for treating various kinds of ailments. The aromatic and medicinal properties of chamomile have made the plant a favorite constituent in aromatherapy and other remedies. Chamomile can be used in tea to treat cold and flu, and the herb can also be put into bath water for a therapeutic bath.
The ingredients that are needed to make the tea include ginger, dried chamomile, coriander seeds, cinnamon, cardamom, and allspice powder. In a cup of boiling water, 3 tablespoons of grated ginger is added, and allowed to simmer. Then a teaspoon of coriander seeds, 1/8 of cardamom powder, and 1/8 tablespoon of grounded cinnamon with a pinch of allspice seasoning goes into the simmering water, and then allowed to simmer for a further 20 minutes. The water is then removed from heat and then dried chamomile, about 2 tablespoons, is added and soaked for 10 minutes, before straining the tea. It is best to drink the tea while it is still warm, and should be drunk a few times a day.
Chamomile can also be used in a chamomile bath to reduce the congestion in the throat or chest, and sooth the soreness. However, care should be taken when using chamomile as a remedy as some people can be allergic to it. And it is also important to remember that chamomile can help to alleviate the symptoms of cold, but not necessarily prevent it from persistence.
