How to teach kids to prevent cold and flu viruses?

Children must be taught to develop proper hygiene habits as early as possible. This will protect them from cold and flu – which are common conditions affecting the children. In fact, an average child is likely to develop one of these conditions at least 4 times every year.
However, while teaching their children about hygiene, parents must use terms and concepts that are easy for the children to understand. In all cases, the children must learn to incorporate hygiene habits into their normal daily routine.
The first thing the children need to learn is washing hands regularly and thoroughly. This is because the hands help in spreading infection. Children must always wash their hands: after returning from school, before eating food, after visiting the toilet, after touching the potty and after returning from any outdoor activity. If the children are asked to regularly wash their hands in each of these events, they automatically learn to maintain healthy hygiene habits. Children may be encouraged to clean their hands if the soap smells good or if it has the shape of a cartoon character. They must learn to sneeze and cough into their arms to prevent germs from spreading. They must also use tissues – and not their hands – to blow their noses.
