How to avoid germs that cause cold and flu virus?
Cold and flu viruses are everywhere, and at all times, especially during the winter seasons. It is therefore very important to be careful about what you do and how you do it so that you can avoid getting sick.
One of the most important measures that you can take in order to stay healthy is to make sure that you do not touch infected surfaces. Viruses can survive on cloth or paper for 8 to 12 hours. In non-porous surfaces made of metal or plastic, the virus can live upto for upto 24 hours, doorknobs being one of those surfaces that carries influenza virus the most. Virus can live for even longer periods, upto 72 hours, on damp surfaces such as towels. Germs can also be found in elevator or ATM machine buttons. Faucets, both in home and outside, are also known to carry viruses. The best way to avoid catching the virus from one of such surfaces is to make sure you clean your hand with antibacterial hand wash or wipes every time your hand comes in contact with them. You can also try to disinfect the surface of objects before using them. And whenever possible, use a tissue to touch door handles and seat covers when using public toilets.
It may not be always possible to stay away from viruses, but being aware of the viruses, and disinfecting your hands every time an inevitable contact takes place is perhaps the best way to avoid getting seriously ill from cold and flu viruses.
