During flu season it is best to be well aware of the symptoms that can lead to influenza. Several cases shown that, after weeks of treatment on influenza patients usually get better but a few of the symptoms linger for weeks. Patient may feel weak and lazy due to the incredible stress that influenza brings upon the body. However, a very common case is having a dry cough that sticks around for more than 3 weeks after the flu is over.
Cough is the last indication that remains at the end of any acute infection quite often. A post-viral cough may stick around for several weeks. Even though a dry cough may seem like a normal consequence after flu, it sometimes may be caused by another respiratory infection, such as pertussis. This is the infection that causes whooping cough among children, but is not all that dangerous for adults.
It could also be a due to a post nasal drip. The way to identify whether you have a post nasal drip is if the cough intensifies when the patient is lying on his back. This is easily treated with antihistamines and decongestants.
